Michael Cashman

Actor, now politican, appearing at the first Glasgay! festival in 1993

Michael Cashman MEP is now a Labour politician in the European Parliament. He first appeared at Glasgay! in 1993 and is probably best known for his role as Colin Russell in BBC TV’s Eastenders, a character remembered for being a participant in the first gay kiss in a British soap opera. As well as his acting career, Michael Cashman is a human rights activist and is a founder of Stonewall and a patron of several charities. He is now a Labour spokesperson on human rights in the European Parliament.
