Biography

Morwenna Kearsley http://morwennakearsley.co.uk/

Morwenna is a Glasgow-based artist and educator, concerned with producing still and moving images. Her primary motive as an artist is to consider the entwined histories of photography and cinema, against the backdrop of localised social history, in order to contemplate the current and ongoing implications of these technologies in the age of digital reproduction. She is trying to understand the complexity of image-making, image-receiving, and image-keeping. Often through writing, she weaves archival research with autobiographical events to agitate and disrupt her understanding of what a photographed image is and how it acts on our memories, and inevitably, on our bodies and voices. She investigates the idea, often incorporated into the horror and Gothic modes of representation, which asks: how are we transformed by the images we consume?
