Tennessee Williams – old, lonely, drink addled and drug addicted – has taken refuge in a suite in the Hotel Elysée. Wounded by the Broadway critics and mourning the death of his lover of fourteen years, he has become dependent on the care of paid companions: a group of handsome hustlers.
Psycho-active drugs are taken in copious amounts to fend off ever present panic: amphetamines are injected to counter-act the effects of sedatives and sleeping pills. This is the hallucinatory world of Elysian Fields. Hotel rooms morph into cells where Tennessee must confront his worst fear; confinement and his ghost haunted past.
