UNTITLED 2009

WRITTEN BY NELLY KELLY

DIRECTED BY DAVID WOOD

Full Cast

Presented by Queen Jesus Productions in association with Outspoken Arts Scotland

In July 2009 a Bible was put on display in GoMA alongside the notice:

“If you feel you’ve been excluded from the Bible, please write your way back into it.”

The exhibit, Untitled 2009. was intended to be a reclamation of the bible as a sacred text but was condemned as a sacrilegious act by churches across Scotland. and globally, as negative reports broke out online.

Ten years on Untitled 2009 is back on display and the words collected in its margins spoken aloud onstage by a collective of LGBTQ performers. What has changed in the last ten years and what do these words tell us about queer lives in Scotland?

Note: Contains strong language.

0 EVANGELHO SEGUNDO JESUS, RAINHA DO CEU

WRITTEN BY JO CLIFFORD

DIRECTED BY NATALIA MALLO

Image: Luciane Pires Ferreira

In this powerful reimagining of Jo Clifford’s acclaimed play, Jesus is embodied in the present as a travesti woman from the fringes of Sao Paulo. Renata Carvalho’s raw and mesmerising performance brings her travesti identity to the fore, challenging us to understand the suffering caused by stigma and marginalisation.

Performed from Berlin to Cape Verde and across South America, 0 Evangelho has changed the landscape of Brazilian theatre forever, enduring state and institutional censorship and sixteen lawsuits. Since the election of right-wing Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro it has become too dangerous to perform the play in Brazil.

Celebrated and award-winning. The Gospel has had an incredible journey over the last decade, touring globally and inspiring a Brazilian production at the epicentre of the county’s struggles against bigotry.
