Glasgay! production of a Tennessee Williams play
AND TELL SAD STORIES OF THE DEATH OF QUEENS
by Tennessee Williams
Director Sam Rowe
Design Colin O’Hara
Producer Steven Thomson
Citizens Theatre, Glasgow 28 October – 1 November 2008
As part of Glasgay!’s Tennessee Williams Festival, this is the Scottish premiere of one of Williams’s lesser-known theatrical works, never performed in his lifetime, a snapshot of Candy Delaney, a New Orleans transvestite who is “moving on” from her long-term, and only, relationship. To do this, Candy invites a handsome but troubled sailor, Karl, back to her flamboyantly-decorated home to drink and admire the evening light. On the eve of her 36th birthday, Candy’s vulnerability is exposed, as the odd courtship of their “queer deal” goes awry.
